Our engineers have worked long and hard to make sure that we built
a virtually indestructible network infrastructure, in order to provide
our users the best possible solution. Read about the four categories
that make up the BootBox infrstructure and find out what makes us
tick.
Our Servers:
We thought about many different things when we decided on which server
hardware to go with. There was of course the choice of Sun Microsystems,
or Silicon Graphics, Inc., but when we thought about all of the things
that we wanted to offer, we found that there was no manufacturer out
there that provided exactly what we were looking for. So we built
our own. Using top of the line components like Intel processors, Kingston
memory, Antec rack chassis, Tyan and Asus motherboards, ATI video
cards, 3Com network server cards, Seagate Cheetah 10,000 RPM SCSI
hard drives, DPT array controllers, and Adaptec SCSI host adapters,
our servers are second to none. Of course, our engineers did quite
a bit of tweaking on each component to make sure it was running to
the peak of its performance.
While that all sounds well and good, we found that to really get the
power out of the systems, we would use the Linux OS, and the Beowolf
clustering technology to make the server computers into super computers.
By bundling six or more server systems together into one main super
computer, we were able to really unleash the power of Linux.
We then of course did a bunch of code re-writing and tweaking on the
Linux OS, and tons of other things to make these super computers blistering
fast and very reliable.
Our Routers & Switches:
The entire BootBox Solution and all of the products and services we provide is
powered entirely by a well built Cisco network. We have 7507 routers,
8500 series switches, and engineers that are Cisco Certified Networking
Specialists. Although the technology is not as popular as we felt
it should be by now, we opted to go with a gigabit network that used
no hubs, and only switches. By using switches, we were able to almost
double the gigabit pass-through on our multi-homed network. In turn,
not only are we able to serve up your web pages by way of our super
computers, but the speed at which the data passes from server to server
is also at a speed that you would be hard pressed to match.
Our Bandwidth:
After taking our time and looking at tons of bandwidth providers, BootBox
opted to go with QWest. QWest is one of the biggest and most repected
of all of the bandwidth providers, and one of the only ones to guarantee
100% uptime. Through multiple T3 connections, QWest is able to provide
BootBox the power it needs to serve tens of thousands of websites
each and everyday. We are also looking at upgrading to multiple OC-3's
or OC-48's as time goes on.
Our Power:
Everything works beautifully when the power is up and running, but what happens
when the lights go out? The answer? Plain and simple. Nothing. BootBox
has its own power generators and UPS systems made by APC. To put it
plain and simple, even if the power went out for 3 weeks, BootBox
would still be up and running without a hitch. Our staff doesn't even
see a flash in their screen if the power is disconnected.
